  • Empower citizens to collect plastic pollution data and use it to advocate for better decision making regarding reducing the production and achieving a circular economy.
  • Collaborate with community groups and decision makers to improve policies and legislation resulting in less consumption of single use and unnecessary plastic.

BeachPatrol Australia Inc is a non-profit organisation registered in Victoria, Australia. We oversee a network of community beach and street cleaning groups each originated under and proudly part of the BeachPatrol & Love Our Street movement.

Each group is defined by its suburb & postcode, and is comprised of community volunteers of that suburb e.g 3206 BeachPatrol (Middle and Albert Park), 3182 BeachPatrol (St Kilda), 3207 Love Our Street (Port Melbourne). Each group has their own distinct t-shirts which are worn during clean ups. The t-shirts are printed with the common BeachPatrol or Love Our Street logo but customised according to the suburb of the individual group.

Each group having their own distinctive team colour, e.g. Port Melbourne is in BLUE, Brighton is in ORANGE, Middle Park is in RED and St Kilda is in PURPLE.

The groups operate a very simple model. Community volunteers sign up on the BeachPatrol website to become members of their local group. Volunteers then pledge one hour of voluntary cleaning per month. This cleaning is done either at the discretion of the member or as a part of organised monthly group cleans. Group cleans are usually conducted on weekend mornings, are followed by a fun, social coffee session. Community cleans are a great way to get to know people from the neighbourhood. The extra buzz comes from members being able to share in the enjoyment of doing their bit for the local environment.

Our aims and objectives are to

  • Remove litter from beaches and foreshores to reduce the negative impact of this litter on the marine environment and food chain, and to provide a safe environment for beach and foreshore users.
  • Strengthen communities through engaging them in cleaning their own beach and foreshore and providing opportunities for individuals to engage with like-minded members of their community.
  • Raise awareness of the litter problem and help educate communities about reducing, reusing & recycling.
  • Lobby for changes with local and State government to reduce the amount of litter that gets into the marine environment using the power of the data we collect and the number of groups and volunteers that form BeachPatrol Australia.
  • Continue to engage as many communities as possible in forming their own BeachPatrol group or Love Our Street group in order to increase BeachPatrol Australia’s influence

If you would like to join a beach patrol group or start up your own group you are very welcome too

You don't have to live near the beach we encourage all suburbs to join the action it will be more fun and rewarding than you think
