In 3 separate cleaning events, Beachpatrol Members picked up these counts.
1) In Mar, along 500 m of Rouse St in Port Melbourne, 3141 butts were picked up. This is street with cafes a pub and a few shops.
2) In Apr along a beach in St Kilda, over 7400 buts were picked up long 50 m of the high tide line.
3) In Apr, outside a small assisted living complex, 725 butts were picked up from a 50 m long garden along the footpath next to their houses.
How can the 14% of the population that smoke ruin the environment for the other 86% of us so badly and yet very little is done about it. There is a $520 fine for cigarette butt littering yet it is not enforced.
