LOS 3207 Port Melbourne

Love Our Street 3207 Port Melbourne

Our volunteers help look after our local neighbourhood streets of Port and South Melbourne to stop litter getting to the bay. LOS3207 conducts a clean along some of the area’s streets every month.

The distinctive LOS tee shirts of the volunteers make for a colourful addition to the streets during their cleans.

Corporate groups are welcome contact us for a volunteer activity whereby LOS3207 will supply the team leaders and necessary equipment to conduct a clean and subsequent litter audit.

3207LOS Clean along end of Lorimer St by admin

This is typically a highly littered street,   We had cleaned it two times already this year so it was interesting to see what it would be like since the last clean in April.  We were targeting only littered drink containers due to a limit on time the students had before school.  199 containers were picked up with 52 coffee cups and or lids.

LOS3207 Clean around Port Melbourne Streets by admin

Whilst on our way to a clean at West Gate park today for CUAD we took extra time to pick up all the littered bottles and cans along some Port Melbourne streets.  Only a distance of 4.5 km.  What should have been a 15 min ride too over 45 mins.   There were so many along the road side.   145 were collected.    That is a littered bottle every 30 m of street.  This is disgraceful.

LOS3207 Has first official clean by admin

Love Our street 3207 had its first official clean on Tuesday 14th Feb.   We were joined by online Volunteer organising company Becollective.   They supplied 30 people to come out and do a clean around some South Melbourne streets. The results were astounding.  743 bottles and cans.  Approx. 300 kg or rubbish.    We cleaned about 6 km of streets.  Doing the math that equated to 1 littered bottle or can every 8 m of street.  Every 8m!  Victoria needs a container deposit scheme to fix this.
