3195Parkdale BeachPatrol Covering the Parkdale Beaches

3195Parkdale BeachPatrol - Parkdale

3195Parkdale is a group of volunteers that meet up once a month on a Sunday morning at 10am, spending an hour picking up rubbish along the beach and foreshore. Our first clean up session took place in August 2014.

Regular beach visitors will notice that the beach is often littered with rubbish, particularly after heavy rains, when storm water brings street litter to the Bay. The task of cleaning this rubbish is more than Council can manage and that's where BeachPatrol comes in.

The structure of our clean ups is that we request volunteers arrive with their own gloves and we provide bags to collect the rubbish. We usually send the volunteers in both directions from the meeting point. Each person then spends 45 minutes collecting rubbish before heading back to the meeting point where we take photo of all the volunteers attending and the rubbish collected. Lastly we weigh each bag collected to determine the total of our haul before placing it into nearby council provided rubbish and recycle bins.

Our fabulous volunteers are community minded locals who share a passion for keeping our beaches clean for everyone to enjoy. We encourage volunteers to become regulars but understand everyone is time poor. That's why 1 hour is the perfect amount of time. Come on down to our next clean up, bring the kids and get them involved. Tell your friends and help spread the word. You can also find us on Facebook. See you at the next clean up!

Parkdale Feb '18 Clean Up by parkdale3195@beachpatrol.com.au

What a cracking day we had yesterday for our February Clean Up with 18 enthusiastic volunteers that included a few new faces which is great to see. Together we collected over 30kg of rubbish. Sadly the volume of cigarette butts was appalling. We collected a full bag in the Antibes St beach car park alone. Find of the month was definitely a toilet seat.

See you all again shortly as we move out of our normal cycle for March to coincide with Clean up Australia day on March 4th at 10am. That's the same weekend as the Mordialloc Festival so there's another great reason to be down at the beach.

Parkdale Jan '18 Clean Up by parkdale3195@beachpatrol.com.au

Today's January Clean up was supported by 20 volunteers of all ages. It was fantastic to see multiple new members come along who together with our faithful regulars collected 27kg of rubbish and 13kg of recyclables. Giving us a total of 40kg of waste removed from Parkdale Beach in 1 hour. Fantastic job by all. Sadly as usual cigarettes butts were one of our most common and preventable items.

Parkdale Dec '17 Clean Up by parkdale3195@beachpatrol.com.au

Thanks to all volunteers that came out for our Christmas Clean up today and all those that made it to any one of our sessions throughout the year. Your support, enthusiasm and diversity is what makes it so much fun. Today 22 festive volunteers collected 14kg of rubbish, mainly small fragments of plastic and those pesky cigarette butts.
