3184BeachPatrol Covering the Beautiful Elwood Beaches

3184 Beach Patrol

3184 Beach patrol looks after the beautiful Elwood beaches.  It is sandwiched between the 3182 and 3186 zones.  The Elwood beach is a particularly attractive beach for local families.  Its wide light coloured sandy beach with gentle lapping waves makes it an ideal picnic and swimming destination for family and friends.  When clean, the beach is a gorgeous site.  Lets keep it that way!

Elwood Beach Patrol dates for 2018:    We meet at 9 am, see next beach clean up info on the home page or our facebook page for details of meeting point.

There's butter on Elwood Beach by 3184@beachpatrol.com.au

In addition to the 17kg of waste collected, we learned of the mysterious butter blocks that are buried all along the beach. It is unclear how they got there.

Elwood's May clean by 3184@beachpatrol.com.au

We had another great turnout! Almost 30 volunteers this time. The beach, rocks and surrounding grass were all in a bad way following recent rainy weather. Well done team for clearing 22kg of litter, being mostly small fragments that are really harmful to wildlife. It was great to have support from the Eco Centre this time and from Elwood Sailing Club. Our next clean up will be at the Point Ormond car park end of the beach on 16 June.

Elwood's big haul in April by 3184@beachpatrol.com.au

This month the beach seemed to be covered in endless little pieces of plastic, the real nasty stuff that is so bad for the marine environment. The sea life and the birds can thank us for removing more than 27kg of it off the beach. That is almost 1kg of micro litter per volunteer. It was so bad that most people found it hard to stop at the end of the clean up. This is a reminder that the contents of the urban streets end up on our beach after stormy weather.

See you next time on 19 May at the Elwood Sailing Club.
