On Friday August 14, over 35 Aspendale Primary grade Six students, led by their teacher, Lisa Phillips went across to Aspendale Beach to volunteer about 30 mins of their sustainability class time to assess and collect litter from the beach.
Aspendale is a beautiful beach and is normally quite clean in comparison to other bay beaches. However after returning to class and investigating further what each student collected , they were amazed at the array of litter. " so much plastic' , so many lids" was one comment .
Students took photographs and weighed each bag collected and sorted through all the litter on a table to gain a better understanding of exactly what was collected.
Sunday August 16, over 18 super dooper volunteers joined us on the beach at 9 am at Hearle Ave.
It was a lovely morning and after such a cold few weeks it was great to see so many smiling faces.
A few new volunteers and lots of kids was great to see.
We covered quite a large area today as we had a few people and we would like to add the Schools data to ours for the month of August.
