3207Beachpatrol Cleans on Clean Up Australia Day
28 volunteers including 4 new people came out to join the nationwide Clean up Australia Day event.  We cleaned about 1 km of beach in Port Melbourne down to Kerford Rd.  The beaches were mostly clean with not having had any hot summer days for the past week or more.  A number of burst helium balloons with their strings were found along the high tide mark.

Bottle Litter is #1 on 3207Beaches
3207BeachPatrol had their Feb clean last weekend.  With 35 volunteers, we cleaned two of our beaches.   The most littered item was the discarded bottle, Coke bottles, water bottles (another Coke product), beer bottles and more.   These were in the shrubbery along side the beaches.  People must think this is a dumping ground.  Approx 50 bottles were removed from 200 m of trees.

3186 Starts off the New Year on Brighton Beach

"Mike, Sadie and Judy met today for the regular monthly Brighton beach clean up organised by 3186 Beach Patrol. The small but enthusiastic crew picked up 20 kilos of rubbish, including a Santa Hat and a Monopoly Hotel! The picture shows us and our haul. Sadie has our little finger puppet mascot (as yet un-named) who was rescued and cleaned up following our last meet.

We do group clean ups on the 1st Sunday of each month.

3207BP's Christmas Beach Clean
30 members turned out to a cool but clear morning to clean the beach along by the Port Melbourne Life Saving club.  To our surprise and delight, there was not much litter to be picked up.  The summer weather has not arrived as yet and the beach visitors numbers are low still which helps the beaches out.  Most of what was picked up was little bits of plastic and plastic straws.  (When will they get banned?)
