3207Christmas Clean

A beautiful day for a beach clean.   25 volunteers came out to clean the Port Melb beach and the Dog Beach.  What looked like a clean beach to start with still yield quite a bit of pickings.

78 bottles and cans

2 syringes and

about 25 kg of litter.

Some Christmas cheer was evident with a variety of Santa hats and even one set of Santa socks.

November Clean Up

Another combined effort, this time supporting Friends of Greenwich Bay litter hotspots project. The team removed 8.5 large Cleanup (cleanup Australia) Bags of waste, and x3.5 large bags of recyclable items (bottles, cans, etc) at The Warmies, along the rocky banks of the Yarra River. This also included a very large a mount of litter associated with local fishing, including discarded fishing line, bait bags, and packaging from other fishing items and equipment - there is an obvious problem with fisherman not taking responsibility for their personal waste and is an issue that must be addressed.

Thanks to everyone who turned up!!! It's always great to mix with other local groups - many hands!

October Clean Up / Open Day / Birthday
Our October Clean Up was part of the Friends of Williamstown Wetlands (FOWW) open day. It was a great event giving us the opportunity to meet other community groups and learn a bit about the great work they're doing. Williamstown is lucky to have all these motivated volunteers protecting our shoreline, waterways and parks! The event was held at Williamstown Highschool with 14 volunteers walking from the school to Williamstown beach collecting 16kgs of rubbish. A bug thanks to Marilyn from FOWW for supplying the Beach Patrol Birthday cake....it looked great and tasted even better! Well done to everyone involved on the day!

3193 Ricketts Point - November 2015 clean

It was a cool windy day for our first beach clean at Black Rock beach, after a week of rain and wind and storm water drains and bay currents tossed up lots of stuff on the beach. Rain threatened, but did not eventuate. It was lovely to be on the beach in that ozone-filled air.

Many thanks to the 26 people who attended.  There was a huge amount of rubbish to clean – 46 kg collected!
