Sandringham April Clean Up!
A great turn-out on a beautiful morning!  We collected 21kg of rubbish, 36 bottles and cans and 126 cigarette butts! YUK.  We also cleared out a lot of rubbish from between the rocks in the groyne.  Obviously from fishermen who, despite appreciating and taking from the beautiful bay, think that it's ok to wedge their fishing bait bags, fishing line, cans, containers and plastic bags into the rocks.

We collected 4kg of rubbish, 325 cigarette butts, 8 bottles and 2 syringes.  There was a huge amount of small plastic pieces beneath the Red Bluff Cliffs, which a few of us spent most of the hour cleaning.  These small pieces of course originate from larger plastic items which have broken down over time and made their way to our beautiful little beach.

What a terrible, horrible, no-good day!  A very small group of intrepid beach patrollers somewhat stupidly (ignoring a grim weather report) arrived for the final clean up of the year.  Within 15 mins we were all totally saturated, huddled under the stairs of the Life Saving Club with not much to show for it!

A cold morning for Beach Patrol!  Where is everyone?  At home, warm in bed?  We envied you momentarily!  Thank you to Kim and Sam and their two young kids for braving the elements and joining us on a cold morning on Sandringham Beach! They did a great job pulling out rubbish from the groyne.  The yo-yo fishermen have been busy pulling up on their rods while pushing down with their rubbish - in between the rocks - lots and lots of it.  More there for another day.  Despite the weather we felt satisfied and energised!  See you next time!
