It was a lovely sunny day, which saw 25 people turn up to help collect 24 kgs of rubbish, 54 containers and about 1,500 cigarette butts. It's clear that SUmmer is over and the beach has seen less traffic, but also that council keeps an eye on things and was out combining the beach 2 days before us. We also had more than a few members of the public come up for a chat and the business cards are proving very useful too. We'll order more t-shirts from the left-over grant money and see if we can get some food organised for next event, which will be near the boat ramp and hopefully we'll see even more school kids as Adeline will do some additional promotional work!

The numbers are proof enough that Victoria really needs a Container Deposit Scheme, sooner rather than later. Just 2 volunteers from Beach Patrol Altona managed to gather 500+ plastic bottles, 150+ cans and 25 glass bottles in one spot in under 2,5 hours. A stunning total of 24 bags, 4 truck tyres, 20kg of iron scrap, many car parts, too much oil and about 500 coffee cups and lids later they used the Litter Stopper and Snap Send Solve Apps to record their findings. There is at least as much again in this same spot, perhaps for another time. The Hobsons Bay City Concil has been contacted to rerquest they take action and discuss options with the servo owner to provide bins for this 100% avoidable littering
