50 volunteers picked up over 200kgs of rubbish from the Werribee South beach today.  This included 194 drink bottles & cans, polystyrene foam, take away food items, plastic fragments, 1500+ cigarette butts, plastic sheeting and metal items such as a car part and old pipes an old sailboard and a bicycle. Despite this being an unacceptable  amount of rubbish it is considerably less than what we have collected at previous cleans here.  This would indicate that our work is having an impact but there is still massive room for improvement.  The high number of drink containers we consistently collects strongly indicates the need for a container deposit scheme.  After the clean we all enjoyed a BBQ provided by the Australia India Foundation Incorporated  We greatly value their support & also want to acknowledge the support of, Rotary Club of Werribee, Wyndham Harbour, Bunnings & Melbourne Water.
