Our November clean, held on Saturday 18th, was a great session with a
strong turn out and several passers-by signing up to the team! As is
often the case, the beach was looking clean but we hauled at least one
kilo of rubbish per volunteer on the day, as there was plenty to be
collected on the rocks and in the bushes. In addition to this, the
beach was still rife with smaller plastics and other little pieces that
the cleaning machines don't pick up. So our great team effort was well
worth it. Special thanks to Terry from 3182 Beach Patrol for lending me
his kayak to collect some floating litter!

Thanks to all for a
great effort! We will be out for our end of year clean up on Saturday
16 December at 9am, this time meeting at the Point Ormond car park.
Until then, this warm weather will attract crowds to our beloved beach
so if you get the chance to do any cleaning up please do so! Our beach
and the marine and bird life are all the better for it!
It was a perfect day on South Melbourne Beach! Lovely weather, not too crowded with people. It looked clean, but we still found plenty of rubbish - and my first paper straw!

Very encouraging, we're having a good number of volunteers turning up over the last few months.

Today we had 11 on a beautiful Saturday morning. We're lucky to have some vegetation along the foreshore

which gives the litter a change to be trapped between each monthly beach clean.

I think we're gradualy getting on top of keeping the bush area litter free - a good positive.

Today we collected 9 bags of rubbish weighing 28.2 kgs including 43 bottles and cans.

LOS 3184 Elwood November 2017 Street Clean

LOS 3184 Elwood’s Magnificent Seven!

On what was perhaps a long weekend for some, seven members came along including two new members from further afield. Wonderful to have people join us when they can, in a cause we are committed to. The drizzle held off till we had finished, then sent us scurrying for shelter in a local café for well-deserved refreshments in fine company.

We collected 8.72 kg of litter: 463 cigarette butts and 39 drink bottles and cans, plus lots of other fragments of plastic and other litter. The plastic golden confetti spread about at the infamous Confetti Disaster of September was still in evidence amongst the grass of nature strips, so we were still cleaning it up!
