We picked up 9.7kg of rubbish from the Hampton dog beach - good job!  Thank you!  Thank you also to everyone who has attended a 3191 beach clean up this year.  Give yourself a pat on the back for helping to keep this area naturally beautiful and free from rubbish.  I hope you'll all be back again next year!  "Love Where you Live".

Strong start to 2017 on Elwood Beach!  Last Saturday we had a great turn out of regulars and new faces alike and really worked the beach and surrounding bushes to clean up the area.  The morning turned from cloud to sun to give us some encouragement!

3198 January 2017 clean up
Thank you team for joining in the first 3198 Beach Patrol Clean of 2017. It's so nice getting to know the people that live around you while doing great work for our planet.

Last Sunday the 15th of January this amazing crew removed 19kg of litter off the beach, including 30 bottles and cans, we really need the container deposit scheme to come in and hopefully encourage people to dispose of their waste better! Many members commented on the obscene amount of cigarette butts on the beach. Thank you to all for your relentless work both at our events and through the changes that many are making at home, we would all love to live in a world where what we do isn't necessary

Our next 2017 clean is
Sunday February 26th, meeting 10-11am at Keast Park

3194 Mentone Beach Patrol January Wrap

The rubbish must have known it was Beach Patrol Day today because it was there in droves.

I'm not sure how the currents and tides work but for some reason today we saw
big numbers of aluminium cans all washed up with the seaweed. Most looked like they had been in the ocean for a while.
All up our 7 volunteers collected 27 bags of rubbish weighing 101.1 kgs including 243 aluminium cans, 28 plastic bottles & 3 glass bottles. We also heard that a man and 2 of our Beach Patrol early birds had picked up a large wheely bin of cans (see photo below) before we started so it could have been 500 plus cans on the beach this morning.
One good thing with the rubbish being so obvious was that the public took more notice of who we are and what we're doing.
Good work everyone,
Paul.

3205 BeachPatrol Jan Clean

The long S. Melb beaches don't have the corners to trap larger plastic bits.  What we find on these beaches is lots of small items.  Most commonly bottle top plastic lids and plastic straws.

10 People came out today to clean about 600 m of beach front.

3199 Frankston Beach Patrol January 2017 Clean Up

As the late great Ritchie Benaud use to say, "A marvellous day here..." and although he may have been talking about conditions at the MCG, he could well have been speaking about Frankston's beautiful Wells Street Beach
